my birthday trip

I went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my girl. A trip on my birthday! woohoo. It was my first time to be there and I was amazed with Petronas Towers. It was awesome especially during night time. We woke up very early in the morning so that we could be in front of the line going to the sky bridge.

... Jam in action... =)

Traveling in Malaysia was relatively fine. Just the same in the Philippines except the Taxi - they always (at least the period we stayed there) over-charged us, doesn't use the meter. That was a challenging one - to find a taxi driver that will not charge you as if you are the Prince of some country. We were able to ride the bus and train instead.

At Batu cave. monkeys are everywhere. Most of them are choosy, they prefered Coke rather than water. hehe

Lastly for our dinner, We went to KL tower. Delicious food, awesome place with a nice view of the entire city. That was the best birthday dinner so far. Yum!

enjoy!

danna's 1st year

Danna's photo ops for her invitation.

She never cried during the short shoot at our place. Never failed to amaze me with that cute smile. She moves from one place to another, keeping at pace with her was a challenging one hehe =)

here is another shot.

enjoy!

brace yourself

This is my only entry to the VIVO city photo contest
. It was a quick shot under the sun. We had to make it fast because it was burning hot that day. Unfortunately I did not make it to the semis (LOL) but it was a good experience.

Thanks to Jam for being my model that day... also to Sheilla for the title.... =)

adrenaline rush

It was a great weekend for us here in Singapore - and it was my 2nd formula one experience. I'm more satisfied now since I got my own camera (since my first F1 experience I don't have any back then). Luckily I was able to borrow a 55-200mm lens from my cousin, I thought the 18-105mm lens that I currently have will be short for the photos I want to take. We've been to three different spots in the grandstands (in three different day).

Day 1 - The first was on the topmost part (sample photo above).
Day 2 - We tried to go closer, and the next photo below is a sample of the
kind of shot I was able to get.

Day 3 - We decided to stop chasing these cars and enjoy the game, so we sat on our seats ( at last after 2 days). I was able to practice the panning technique of shooting and got a chance to shoot candid photos of the crowd. =)

There was also too much competition on every spot along the grandstand, so we were early and guard the spot we wanted to take hahaha =)

chasing pavements

In preparation for the Formula One Grand Prix 2009 here in Singapore, some roads was not accessible for public vehicles. I took that opportunity to go in the middle of the road to take photos (since I don't have the guts to take this kind of shots during the normal traffic hours). It was a quick photo ops since I scheduled it after work - on my way to the bus stop, I passed the empty road and stayed there for at least 20-30 minutes to take pictures. Luckily there are few people walking on the middle of the road, that's why I captured the street relatively empty.

It was worth it after all. =)

sundown

We went to a resort one afternoon for a night swim. It was the best time for me to have a sunset shot (since I still don't have any photo of the sun setting down that time). So I brought along my camera and strapped on my neck the whole trip so that I won't miss my target shot that day.

Tadahhhhhhhhhhh! I took this shot while walking to the venue. I felt so relieved! =) At least I have one stereotype photo hehehehe

=)

here is another photo of that same day.

kidnapped

I was in my office mate's apartment last time for a little gathering with the boys. While waiting for them ( all of them are playing badminton that time, a little exercise for the oldies), i saw this little chair for a toddler, so i put it in place, took a shot while seating on a sofa. Luckily it turned out well.

That lazy afternoon turned out to be a productive day at least for my hunger in shooting photos.

michiko's first year

It's been a long time since i posted some of my works here in my blog. anyway, this was taken from a birthday party of the baby girl named "michiko". It was very seldom to see her smile, normally she would look like a curious little baby, staring at you as if you are a different human being. Luckily I got to shoot her smiling all the way to the venue. She was very happy in the van with her yaya playing with her.

This was my first time to shoot babies, and honestly, it was fun. It was a challenging job since I need to focus my camera and wait for her to do something different - in this case smile with mouth open wide. It's easier for adults you can tell them what to do, in this case I can't. hehehe

Old Railway

I always pass this old railway every time I go to church and ironically I just noticed it last week. I decided to take a photo just this afternoon (and of course before going to church since it is on the way). I am on top of a bridge crossing over the railroad. There are no trains passing on these tracks anymore that's why I had plenty of time to take this shot.

Portraits part 1

I went home last week to my home country - The Philippines, to celebrate my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. It gave me the opportunity to take some portrait shots of my entire family. It was really a good time to practice and learn by experience because here in Singapore I usually take landscapes and still life. I also experienced the rush of setting up a tripod because everybody is watching and waiting for me to take some pictures. =)

Above is my niece taken when she arrived at the venue. We didn't had a sunny morning since it was raining hard that day. All in all I am satisfied. I'm starting to love my 50mm lens. =))

you can check some of the photos in my flickr account.

photo walk day 1

Me and my girl had a photo walk last Sunday. It was a long walk in a sunny afternoon. For those who are already been here in Singapore, we walked from Chinatown / Clarke Quay then passing through Fort Canning Park and ended up at the other side of the hill near City Hall station.

Here is the photo that I like. Simple yet colorful. It's like a combination of the old and the new. I took this at Clarke Quay. It's an area where the old buildings were converted to restaurants/bars so the area is alive every night filled by tourist from everywhere. The ETFE canopy gave the photo a "new" look. It's a nice place to go here in Singapore.

Some of the photos are uploaded in my flickr account.

Lightroom tweeks

Right after my officemate introduced lightroom to me as a photo editor software, I started to view some tutorials online. Lightroom is almost the same with photoshop but with some features that are friendly to some photographers.

Here are some images that I took in Singapore Bird Park.

I used my 18-55mm lens just to have a sharper output. (because as I see it, the 18-55 lens is sharper than my 18-105 lens). I managed to have less noise on the first image.

The background landscape of the second image looks dull at first, after some lightroom tweeks, I was satisfied of the outcome.

My Gear

I created this blog mainly for personal reason only - I just want to see my progress. Of course I also want to know what others might say about my photos. In short, I'm trying to learn technically everything from everyone =)

I bought my dslr camera a few months back, and since I am new at this so-called "hobby"- I'm still trying to learn most of the techniques using my camera.

These are my gear so far:

Nikon D 90
Nikkor 18-55mm f.3.5 VR
Nikkor 18-105mm f3.5 VR
Nikkor 50mm f1.8

I'm planning to buy a dedicated flash, cheap extension tubes just to try a little bit of macro photos and a wide angle lens next time if I have an extra budget. =)
